Last night we had a terrible storm that flooded the track pretty good. The rain did wash all the pollen off the staging area making all the racers happy. The rain caused a two hour delay and as of this writing (12 noon) the track is almost ready for first test hit.

Phil Hines took on John Urist in the first ever finals of AFCO Street Outlaw.  These two battled it out all last season in the old Super Street Outlaw class.  John showed up to the season opener with a turbo strapped to the front which sent shock waves around the racing world.  All eyes were glued to the track for not only the John and Phil battle but also the turbo verses ProCharger battle.  The track conditions being terrible made John decide to switch to a set of slicks while Phil was still on the Drag Radials.  When the lights came down it was Phil who dropped the hammer first with a .040 to John's .042.  Both cars were side by side as Phil poured the coals on to run a This email address is being protected from spambots. Edelbrock Renegade saw the 5X champ Brian Mitchel taking on A.J. Wyce.  Brian would get the reaction time with a .032 to A.J.'s .065 and hold the lead all the way down the track running a This email address is being protected from spambots. In Strange Coyote Stock, a familiar car was in the finals but with a different driver.  This year Joseph Marini has relieved Justin Burcham of his driving duties and jumped behind the wheel of his own car.  Joseph would be taking on Shane Stymiest who got out of the gate first with a .090 reaction to Joseph's .110.  Lucky for Joseph the car still has a little of Justin's mojo and took the win with a This email address is being protected from spambots. Matt Amrine would take on Louis Sylvester Jr. in the finals.  Louis who made the fastest pass in Factory Stock history during qualifying had problems getting down the track once the track went away.  Though Louis dumped the clutch first with a .086 to Matt's .092 it wasn't enough to keep ahead of Matt who took the win running a This email address is being protected from spambots. Flex-A-Lite Open comp racer Donald Carver qualified 11th, battled his way to the finals where he took on Ashley Conway-Long.  Ashley who got to leave first, beat herself on the tree by going red, handing the win over to Donald for the win!

Detroit Locker Truck and lighting had Fred Wade in the right lane taking on last years champ Johnny Lighting.  Fred would get the reaction with a .032 to Johnny's .062.  Fred held Johnny off all the way down the track with Johnny making a move to the center line at the 1/8th mark.  When both trucks crossed the beams it was Fred W with the "W" light in his lane running a 10.234 on his 10.13 dial to Johnny's 8.759 on his 8.67 dial.

"Propane wishes and wheels up dreams!"  The two Roush racers Susan Roush-McClenaghan and Donnie Bowles had a little bit of a burn down at the starting line as Donnie was waiting for the lady to go first.  Susan excepted and took the second bulb and the win when Donnie went red!

In Roush Super Stang action, Canadian John Mummery would take on Dave Liechty.  Though John had the better reaction with a .024 to Dave's .068.  John could not recover from the wheel spin he had off the line running a 11.796 on his 11.64 dial and handed the win to Dave who ran 11.163 on his 11.07 dial.

2013 NMRA Bradenton Saturday Sameday Coverage!

March 07, 2013 by Chad Houghton

Friday night there was a heated discussion about he Shell fuel being used in the Factory Stock and Coyote Stock classes.  In the end the NMRA said the fuel was not legal, that left the racers scrambling to drain their fuel systems.  A task that sounds easy, but not only do they have to drain the fuel they need to burn all the fuel residue out of the tank that involves using car exhaust and filling the fuel tank along with priming the fuel lines and injectors.  The smallest amount of old fuel will count as a fuel test fail.   Because of the fuel change the NMRA is giving the 2 classes more time to get ready by adding another qualifying round to the index classes.

This wicked little Lighting is owned by Eric Leeper that has a ladder car suspension and a 5.4L Mod Motor under the hood.  The truck is rocking an 88mm Precision turbo rather then the class favorite 94mm.  Running the 88mm and a Mod Motor has it's advantages by offering weigh breaks both of which this truck can't meet yet even with the carbon fiber truck bed, light weight doors and front fenders.  In the second round of qualifying Eric left the line easy but ramped the timing in to early causing a secondary burn out to happen just before the 60ft mark.

John Urist is having one Hellion of a time at this track.  On his second qualifying pass, John got off to a good start until the 1/8th mile where the the car made a move to the centre line causing him to click it off.

Phil Hines rocked the house again in Street Outlaw posting up a 7.344@195.18mph!  This time the pass was legal.  When Phil rolled over the scales the car weighted in at 3240.

In Renegade Scott Grove has taken the number one qualifying spot with a 8.434@160.88mph.  Brian Mitchell with a close 8.470@162.60mph is one 10th quicker then the third place spot, A.J. Wyce.

3rd Round Qualifier

In Afco Street Outlaw, eleven cars would show up to the first race.  James Urban brought out the only nitrous entry qualifying at the bottom with a This email address is being protected from spambots. In Edelbrock Renegade, Tim Matherly broke a secondary timing chain on the left bank of his motor ending his weekend of fun.  Scott Grove would hold on to his number one spot with Brian Mitchell holding strong in second.

This is the first teardown we have seen in Strange Coyote Stock.  Shane Stymiest posted up the quickest qualifying pass of This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. was from Joseph Marini who owns the car Justin Burcham drove last year.  To reward Shane for his great performance, tech pulled his transmission to check to make sure his reluctor ring was stock and unmodified.  Shane passed tech with flying colors!

Strange Coyote Stock wasn't the only class feeling the love!  Nitto Factory Stock tech pulled over the  top three qualifiers and had their engines pumped.  Louis Sylvester Jr., Matt Amrine and John Leslie Jr. all passed tech and will be racing on Sunday.

Kennedy Jones who just turned 16 a few day ago, qualified 17th in a field of 25.  James Streamer would go on to qualify number one with a perfect .000 light

Last years Champ in Roush Super Stang Chad Wendel would go on to dump the clutch, blaze the tires and abort the run before he even grabbed second gear.  Lucky for Chad he has a Moser rearend in the car and doesn't have to worry about breaking anything back there.

The big story is Phil Hines' record breaking pass with a ProCharger F1X. Phil got DQ'd on his first qualifying pass but here's the kicker! Phil made a test hit and went over the scales at 3200 pounds, the minimum weight in the class. Phil then added 10 pounds to the car just to be safe.
