A nine year project, Doug Tellerd’s 1990 LX Hatchback ,Ford Racing Nation’s latest pick for ride of the month, a true do it yourself at home garage build is nothing less than impressive on many levels. Acquired from his dad in 2006, in bone stock form, Tellerd’s original intention was to turn it into a street legal track capable ride.

With much of the car seeing an overhauling that included some pretty extensive body repair and replacement of several rusty panels, to the 'freshening up of the motor and tiding up of the engine bay, as well as several interior changes this was a project that saw the birth of two children as the Tellerd family grew patiently awaiting whatever time could be given to it on the occasional weekends and holidays.

Upon the completion of all body repair as well as the spraying of the exterior with a Lime Green finish Tellerd turning his attention to performance improving the mild mannered 302 heart to a heavier hitting, via boring the block and the purchase of a Scat stroker kit engine displacement was brought to 331ci. Improving breathing the intake was swapped out in-favor of a Professional Products Typhoon, along with the install of an MSD 6AL for improved handling of every firing and rev limit as well as a blaster coil improving spark output.

Other performance adders strapped on include Ford Performance B303 camshafts helping to make gains in top end power as well as 24 lb injectors for improved fuel flow, along with C&L 73mm MAF improving breathing and a BBK 65mm throttle body for an enhanced throttle response with all helping to make gains in total horsepower output.

The set up supported by a T-5 transmission has also seen the install of new brake lines from front to back with power steering, A/C and smog equipment all hitting the trash can as well. Improving the soundtrack and pony production Long tube headers as well as a new Flowmaster exhaust was dropped on. Currently rolling on Draglites (15x3.5 up front and 15x8 in the rear) along with a set of 26x10.5 ET streets Strange adjustable struts, BMR upper and lower control arms and 4.10 gears have also been added for improved handling on both track and street.

With a current best E/T on the new set-up of 12.71 @ 107 mph on the ¼ powering down 308 RWHP with  RWTQ at 353 Tellerd’s shares  “I try to get out to the track at least a couple times each summer, and out to some local carshows.  It also gets lots of rides with my kids (Brian - 5 and Jocelyn - 3) How they fall asleep in there, I will never know!” With that said what else would you add to this track capable grocery getter?
