The all new 2013 Ford Mustang RTR!

August 01, 2012 by Chad Houghton

Mustang RTR, the vision of World Champion Drifter and Mustang mad man, Vaughn Gittin Jr., is very excited to introduce the 2013 Mustang RTR Spec 1 and up to 624 horsepower Mustang RTR Spec 2. Like its previous versions, the 2013 Mustang RTR takes the best of multiple automotive cultures and tastefully meshes them with the incredible 2013 Ford Mustang in the form of a dealer-installed package that is currently available in select Ford dealerships around the world. For the 2013 Mustang, RTR is stepping up its game in both appearance and performance, guaranteeing that RTR owners will get everything they desire out of their machine. See the official 2013 Mustang RTR promo VIDEO.

RTR has landed on a very impressive suspension package utilizing Ford Racing adjustable shocks and springs, as well as 4-way adjustable RTR sway bars, RTR adjustable panhard bar, and RTR rear chassis brace – all of which utilize superior Whiteline bushings. This track-ready, street-friendly suspension package comes standard on a Spec 2 RTR or is available as an upgrade to all 2010 to 2013 Mustangs.

“We have spent a lot of time testing the new suspension package,” says 2010 Formula Drift Champion, Vaughn Gittin Jr. “I worked alongside very experienced suspension engineers and other pro drivers to deliver our goal; a very well-balanced car that offers RTR owners the ability to adjust the suspension to suit their driving style without sacrificing ride quality. Without question it is one the most impressive handling and fun-to-drive Mustangs out there.”

A suspension set-up book will be included in the Spec 2 RTR to give the owner suggested combinations of chassis settings to match his or her interest – whether it is drifting, road racing, drag racing, long hauls, or just everyday cruising. Engine horsepower and torque gets an impressive boost of 25hp and 60ft lbs of torque at 1500 rpm’s by way of a Ford Racing Tune, K&N Air Filter, and RTR axle back exhaust system for the Spec 2.

RTR has teamed up with Magnaflow Performance Exhaust to create a unique sounding exhaust system. This system successfully changed the "robotic" exhaust note of the 5.0 and contributed to a 9 horsepower gain on the dyno compared to the stock mufflers. RTR has also opted to change it up by using an innovative black ceramic coating on the mufflers that creates a high temperature thermal barrier, as well as adds to the aggressive look of the RTR. Another first in the Mustang market.

The 2013 Mustang RTR appearance package includes the following upgrades: RTR chin spoiler; rocker splitters; RTR rear diffuser; aluminum RTR rear spoiler; RTR stripe kit; RTR badging; RTR rear deck lid applique; and 19 x 9.5 inch RTR wheels with Falken ultra high performance tires.

”I couldn’t be any more excited with the traction and reception of RTR since its introduction just two short years ago,” says Vaughn. “We will continue to push the envelope and give our customers a fun, aggressive-looking car to drive and a family that they are excited to be a part of well into the future. We are just getting the RTR party started!”

The all-new 2013 Mustang RTR will be offered in the following packages:

RTR Spec 1 - Available for the V6 and V8, RTR appearance package (not including the rear diffuser, RTR rocker splitters, and deck lid applique. RTR striping is optional) Ford Racing 1.0 inch lowering spring, RTR axle back exhaust system.

Spec 1 MSRP $6,250

RTR Spec 2 – Complete RTR appearance package, Ford Racing tune, Ford Racing adjustable shocks, 1.0 inch or 1.5 inch lowering springs, RTR 4-way adjustable front and rear sway bars, RTR adjustable panhard bar, RTR rear chassis brace, RTR axle back exhaust system.

Spec 2 MSRP $11,995 (Optional 525HP or 624HP Ford Racing supercharger)

Currently RTR is finalizing development of a “track slayer” package for release in August 2012 that will replace the panhard bar with a track-proven Watts Link as well as a few other suspension components to take the RTR’s handling to the next level for those wanting a bit more out on the track.

The Mustang RTR is available only at select premium Ford Dealers  world-wide as well as a few certified installation facilities around the USA. Check out to find your local dealer.

“Our new Light-Weight Tubular K-Member is derived from both our GT-4 Mustang development and professional racing programs, which are a segway to several new suspension innovations we plan to release in the next year, according to Kenny Brown.  The K-member is also currently being used on Mustangs in NASA American Iron and the Pirelli World Challenge racing series, where we have spent the first half of the year developing and validating it as part of the new AGS 4.0 Suspension we offer for street and racing applications".

Kenny’s newest version of the AGS 4.0 Suspension System offers completely re-engineered and racing-inspired suspension geometry, plus a significant reduction in weight through the new K-member and front lower control arm modules.  The extended performance benefits are improved roll center, increased anti-dive, and modified camber/toe curve all of which go a long way in improving the overall driving dynamics.

The Light-Weight Tubular K-Member is designed to replace the factory unit and is a bolt-on component that uses OEM mounting points.  The new K-member also allows for use of the factory core support support brace used on 2011-2013 model Mustangs, and optional load support braces found on most 2005-2013 Shelby GT500 models.  The K-member is exclusively designed to be used with Kenny Brown 2005-2013 Front Lower Control Arm Modules and works with all 4.6L 3V, 5.0L Coyote, and 5.4L 4V engines.  The entire assembly is manufactured from high-grade steel, finished in a durable powder coating, and includes all required hardware.

Tiger Racing's Paul Brown Will Try to Return to Competition This Weekend In SCCA Pirelli World Challenge Doubleheader At Canadian Tire Motorsports Park

June 20, 2012 by Chad Houghton

Paul Brown/Tiger Racing and the rest of the SCCA Pirelli World Challenge contingent will cross the border this weekend for their only event in Canada this year when the series visits Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, the facility in Bowmanville, Ontario formerly known as Mosport International Raceway.  Lead driver and team owner Paul Brown won the GTS portion of the second half of the doubleheader at Mosport last year in route to the driver, team and manufacturer’s championship for Ford. He also set two new track records for the class as he was the fastest driver in qualifications and he set the fastest race lap.  Brown, of Covina, Calif., hopes to drive in both races this weekend.  Justin Bell has been substituting for him in the No. 50 Ford Mustang Boss 302S sponsored by eBay Motors and Kenny Brown Performance.  Bell is currently fourth in the driver point standings with two victories, but he will be busy this weekend as part of SPEED’s broadcast crew for the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auctions.  Brown has been unable to compete in the series so far this season because he is battling an aggressive melanoma (skin cancer).
He is being treated as an out-patient at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles, a leader in cancer research that is affiliated with the University of Southern California.  Brown was diagnosed with the disease two weeks before the season opener at St. Petersburg, Fla., in March. He is being treated with a new, cutting-edge drug and must report to the hospital every three weeks for injections.  “I’m going to try to do the test day on Friday, and we’ll see how that goes, Brown said.  I have already gotten releases from my doctors to drive.  If I don’t feel up to doing the races we have Jeff Altenburg signed up as a relief driver for me.  He’s definitely another good shoe and he’ll represent the team well".  like Brown, Altenburg is a seriex champion and won the world Challenge Touring Car Championship in 2007.

“I want to thank our sponsors for their support while I’m focusing on my health, Brown added.  They include eBay Motors, Kenny Brown Performance, Lucas Oil, Ford Racing, K&N Filters, Eibach, Baer Brakes, Hawk Performance, One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning, G-Stream, ERP/JRZ, Tremec Transmission, Bassani Xhaust and Wellendorf Performance"

Paul Brown is the son of Mustang legend Kenny Brown, who has been instrumental in the development of the Mustang racing program over the last two years.  While Paul Brown is concentrating on his health, Kenny Brown Motorsports Group will become more active in his team from an administrative and marketing resources perspective.  It already is heavily involved as a sponsor, and the team and Kenny Brown Performance conduct a technology-sharing program that benefits both.  Kenny Brown Motorsports Group will be also be handling and growing Paul Brown/Tiger Racing’s G-Stream line of aerodynamic products.

Fans can send Paul Brown well-wishes through the Tiger Racing Facebook page.  Other team information will also be posted there, on Kenny Brown Performance's Facebook page, and in the blog on

PRI Announces Transition and Sale to SEMA!

March 20, 2012 by Chad Houghton
Performance Racing Industry (PRI), producers of the motorsports business magazine and trade show, finalized plans to be purchased by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA). The transaction is set to close in late March 2012.
With 20-plus years of publishing and management experience at PRI, John Kilroy will serve as Vice President/General Manager of PRI and assume day-to-day operations for the group. All the operations, employees and offices will remain intact at PRI's current location in Laguna Beach, California.

  • John Kilroy, with 21 years experience at PRI as editor, associate publisher and vice president, continues to lead PRI.
  • SEMA plans to maintain hardcore racing identity and heritage of PRI Trade Show and PRI Magazine.
  • PRI founder Steve Lewis to focus on son's racing career.
"Steve Lewis launched the PRI concept a quarter-of-a-century ago, as an organization totally dedicated solely to the racing industry," said Kilroy. "It was Steve's dream that PRI continue to serve the racing community, and to 'nest' PRI with an organization that clearly understands PRI's heritage and the role we play in how the racing industry conducts business. We are pleased to have found that strategic partner in SEMA."
Lewis, founder and current CEO of PRI, will now be able to dedicate his time and energy to pursue his lifelong passion for motorsports, which includes management of his Nine Racing midget team and supporting the racing career of his son Michael, 2011 Formula 3 Italia Rookie of the Year.
"We carefully considered all our options, and SEMA was the obvious choice to carry on the legacy of the PRI brand," said Lewis. "SEMA is financially sound and has an experienced management team. They bring a long-term outlook to the table, as well as exceptional insight into the trade show business overall. I have no doubt that the PRI brand will continue to deliver value to the racing community, and I know John Kilroy and the current management group will keep the basic business themes that have been established as they continue to work out of the current location here in Laguna Beach that has housed the PRI family for all these years," he said.

Many current and past SEMA Board of Directors have been involved with PRI through the years as exhibitors and advertisers and bring a keen understanding of how the two organizations complement each other.
"We're very excited about the continuation of the great business offerings for the performance and racing community from this acquisition," said Scooter Brothers, SEMA Chairman of the Board. "Having worked with the folks from PRI for many years, I know the show and magazine are appreciated and used by the racing industry to further their marketing efforts, and that racing entrepreneurs look upon the PRI Trade Show as a unique event and a valuable voice. The transition will preserve and protect that voice, and the show's unique character and authenticity. We look forward to the PRI team carrying on the legacy and traditions of Steve Lewis.
"We also want to thank Steve Lewis for all he's done for the racing industry, and for creating PRI," added Brothers. "PRI Magazine and the PRI Trade Show have played a key role in the growth of the racing industry over the past 25 years, and we look forward to its continued success."
SEMA President Chris Kersting said, "The Performance Racing Industry Trade Show and magazine are great complements to the SEMA mission: they help their customers' businesses to succeed. SEMA looks forward to providing the PRI team the resources and support to continue delivering great value to the racing and performance segment."
Founded in 1963, the SEMA trade association provides services and resources to businesses in the automotive specialty equipment industry. Members include manufacturers, distributors, retailers and marketers of products that enhance the styling and functionality of cars, trucks and SUVs. In addition to producing the premier automotive accessories trade show, where more than 100,000 individuals come to do business, SEMA offers education, research and several publications specifically targeted to the industry. The association also represents its members with a legislative advocacy group.
The 25th Annual Performance Racing Industry Trade Show takes place November 29 - December 1, 2012, in the North/South Building of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. It features exhibits by 1,100 racing companies in 3,100 booths, requiring 700,000 square feet to house the event. 38,000 buyers will attend from across the US, and 72 countries.
