The Chicago Auto Show marks the 20 year anniversary of SVT.  It was during the 1992 Show that the Special Vehicle Team unveiled the 1993 Mustang Cobra and the new Lighting pickup.  Since then SVT has sold over 210,000 vehicles produced under not only Mustang and F-150 but name plates like Contour, Focus, Cobra R and most recently Shelby and Raptor.  “In the past 20 years, SVT has engineered world-class mid-engine supercars, front-wheel-drive performance cars, rear-wheel-drive muscle cars and high-performance on-road and off-road pickup trucks,” said Jamal Hameedi, SVT chief engineer. “There is no other performance house in the world that can match that diverse résumé.”  SVT has also been looking into the future by joining with Team RS in Europe to form the Performance Vehicles Group.  Together they have created the first truly global performance car, the Focus ST.  The Ford Fiesta ST Concept also signals the next step in Ford’s global performance vehicle strategy and hints at how a future Fiesta ST model might look when it joins the Focus ST in the global small car portfolio.

To celebrate their 20 years SVT has unveiled their new 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible at this weeks Chicago Auto Show.  On display for the first time the 2013 Shelby GT500 convertible with the optional Performance Package is 3 and a half seconds faster around a track than the last model.  Due mostly to the 5.8L Supercharged V8 engine producing 650hp.  As well as the SVT-designed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers available on the Performance Package and the all-new chassis tuning.  We at FRN would like to congratulate SVT on their 20 years of heritage and proven track performance.
